Interviews Season 57

Odessa Sherreard, LinkedIn Content Writer and Business Development Associate

I'm an inventor!

Not of gadgets or thingamajigs but of engaging content, creative strategies and new business innovations.

I think divergently, not just "out of the box", to create something new and exciting for clients and small business owners.

“Surround yourself with people who have your best interests at heart and want to see you succeed. Don't be afraid in giving value or your experience away for free and always remember to be thankful. Helping someone without financial reward shows a lot about you and your business that people won't often forget.”

What do you like about your current role?

I write engaging and educational content on LinkedIn for small business owners, saving them time and taking the stress out of having a presence online.

I do the research and the writing, and they reap the benefits. I enjoy being creative and helping them to establish a unique identity within their sector and develop a strategy to help move them forward.

What are your favourite books?

Shackleton - Rannulph Fiennes. It's adventurous, an easy narrative to enjoy and an incredible part of history.

The Geography of Bliss - Eric Weiner. I love the idea of searching for the happiest nation and how we even measure joy itself

Who do you most admire and why?

Ashley Leeds. He is always willing to help lend support, strategy and ideas. I am a better person for knowing him, and I'm confident that he always has my back, as I have his.

My Dad. He runs the family business with values deeply rooted in providing for his family and their families. His intentions and operations are never selfish or off balance, and he works extremely hard to help anyone and everyone. I want him to be proud of my accomplishments, and I want to run my business with the same set of values.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

Learn to say ‘no’.

What motivates or inspires you?

For me, it's the people I'm working with and the impact my ideas can have. For so long, I didn't consider myself to be at all creative, but it was only something that I couldn't recognise.

I want to do the best for my clients because they believe in my ability to deliver, and that means everything to me. I want to set an example for my children, that potentially they don't need to experience corporate trauma to run a successful business and learn what not to do.

What would you like to highlight and share with our audience?

Surround yourself with people who have your best interests at heart and want to see you succeed.

Don't be afraid to give value or your experience away for free, and always remember to be thankful.

Helping someone without financial reward shows a lot about you and your business that people won't often forget.
