Hungry for a Banana at Art Basel?
According to Wikipedia Art Basel is described as a for-profit, privately owned and managed, international art fair staged annually in Basel, Switzerland; Miami Beach, Florida; and Hong Kong, selling the works of established and emerging artists.
This latest Art Basel has seen the news that on the face of it appears ‘bananas’.
In a nutshell (or banana skin) an artwork of a banana simply duct-taped to a wall was sold for $120,000. If that headline wasn’t enough to grab your attention, then the news broke that the ‘art’ has been eaten by a separate performance artist!
The artwork in question is titled Comedian, by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. This was available to view at the international gallery Perrotin at Art Basel in Miami.
Things took on a further twist (slip?) when performance artist David Datuna actually removed it from the wall and then proceeded to eat it!
