Innovative Marketing, Strategy, and New Tactics with Miruna Dragomir Ep 190 - The Global Discussion
Miruna Dragomir, the Chief Marketing Officer of Planable, meets with Host Simon Hodgkins to discuss the dynamic world of social media marketing and content collaboration. With an impressive track record, including Uber and Oracle, and a significant role in transforming Planable from a startup with 50 customers to a robust platform serving over 6,000 clients, Miruna's journey is nothing short of inspiring.
A Journey from Social Media Publisher to CMO
Miruna's career trajectory is a testament to her dedication and expertise in marketing. Starting as a Social Media Publisher at Oracle, her role involved the rather monotonous task of copying posts from Excel sheets to publishing tools. However, this humble beginning was the foundation for her meteoric rise in the industry. Moving on to Uber's marketing team and eventually joining Planable, Miruna's experience has been rich and varied.
Reflecting on her journey, Miruna shared, "I joined Planable when it was just a baby. I was the second employee and the first in marketing. We had about 50 customers back then, and today, we serve around 6,000 customers. It's been a thrilling ride."
The Evolution of Social Media Marketing
During the conversation, Miruna highlighted the dramatic evolution of social media marketing. What started as a simple task of posting content has now become a complex orchestration involving entire teams, approval processes, and multifaceted strategies. Planable emerged from this need to streamline collaboration among marketers, agencies, designers, copywriters, and legal teams.
"Social media used to be easy, right? It quickly developed into entire teams orchestrating content plans with approval layers and legal getting involved," she explained. "That's why Planable came into being – to make that whole collaboration a lot easier and a lot less scattered across emails and slacks."
Navigating the Current Social Media Landscape
Miruna offered valuable insights into the current social media landscape, emphasizing the significant changes in how platforms operate and engage users. She pointed out that social media algorithms are now more dynamic, catering to users' changing interests rather than static preferences.
"We are in a full transition period, almost a new era of social media. The way people interact on social media has changed significantly. It's more about responding to users' interests dynamically," she said.
The Challenge of Content Volume and Strategy
One critical challenge for modern CMOs is managing the sheer volume of content required across various platforms. Miruna discussed her approach to balancing proven strategies with experimenting with new channels.
"Being a marketer, there's so much you can do. The temptation to try everything is real. But we have to learn to accept trade-offs. I focus 70% of our resources on what's working and 30% on experimenting with new tactics," Miruna advised.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Planable
As Planable grows, Miruna is focused on expanding its reach through innovative content marketing and strategic planning. She stressed the importance of zooming out periodically to reevaluate and adjust strategies.
"Zooming out helps us paint a picture in broad strokes. It prepares us better for quarterly planning and ensures we stay aligned with our long-term goals," Miruna noted.
