“That it is okay not to have a five-year plan, I have never really known what I wanted to do until I was already doing it.”

Holly Black

Holly Black

Managing Editor, Elephant

I'm originally from Brighton and moved to London to study graphic design at London College of Communication before embarking on an ill-fated Master's degree in curating at Chelsea College of Art. It was so badly run that the entire class collectively sued, and we got some of our money back. What was a failure in terms of education was a master class in collaboration and collective action!

“To be able to keep going despite setbacks and outright failures is essential.”

Ronan Walsh

Ronan Walsh

Portrait Artist, Portraits by Ro

I am a portrait artist living in Dublin. While art has always played a major role in my life, I started to rediscover painting during the pandemic. Being a commercial airline pilot by trade, I found myself grounded due to the travel restrictions. Before long, I decided to concentrate on my artwork and found myself working full-time doing commission work. I mainly work with oils and concentrate on portraits.

“I think each person likely knows what they need to do next, but we often just need someone to listen to us work the problem out loud to figure it out.”

I've been running towards problems and turning them into opportunities since I can remember. More recently, I've been solving them for Fortune 500 companies like Capital One, Sprint, Campbell Soup, State Farm, Sealed Air, Eastman Chemical, and many others. I am a marketing executive and marketing thought leader unleashing growth potential and transforming organizations. My success is driven by my firsthand experience across industries and the knowledge I've gained through over 300 podcast interviews and research programs run for The CMO Club.

“I like to define success by the number of swings, not the number of hits.”

Anne Freeman

Anne Freeman

Writer, Anne Freeman Writes

It's taken Anne half her life to heed the writer's heart that beats within her, but now everything she does is a step toward that rhythm. A former award-winning milliner, promotional model, wanderlust, television extra, accessories designer, vintage market organiser, sales and marketing maven and creator of human life. Anne now chalks up her kaleidoscopic past to research and character development. From her little teak desk in Northcote, Victoria, Anne writes contemporary fiction about women who are stuck in life and the extraordinary ways they shake themselves loose.

“I will not rest until I get the sentence or the shape on the page that is in my head.”

Alan O'Regan

Alan O'Regan

Illustrator and Writer

Apart from the 9-5, which pays the bills, I am a writer and illustrator living in Dublin. I've had plays staged in Bewley's Café Theatre, Theatre Upstairs and Corks Arts Theatre. My second love is drawing. After an early career in Animation and Graphic Design, I now mainly draw and design for myself (along with the occasional caricature for others). In addition, I drink up to six cups of tea a day.
